[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign. [00:00:17] Speaker B: Good morning and welcome to the Cannon County Chamber Connection and courses, as always, made possible by DTC with our appreciation. We've been doing this now for several years or they've been doing this now for several years and we do appreciate it. Well, we've had enough rainy weather, not that we didn't need it in the last couple of weeks that we had to cancel a lot of events. Maybe for the things that are coming up, we'll have a little nicer weather. We haven't been able to have a cruise in actually in two months, but we're going to try again in June. But there is something good that's going to happen. Cannon county has a new business and the Chamber has a new member and it is TSC Tractor Supply and they have finished their building and it looks great. And I think Cannon county should be very proud to have a business of this caliber to set up in Cannon County. And they are going to have their soft opening starting June 8th and it will go through the 13th or the 12th. I'm sorry, that'll be Monday through Friday. And then on the 13th they're going to have a ribbon cutting at 10am they will have food vendors out there. I'm sure they'll have specials and door prizes and everything that goes with it. So that's on a Saturday the 13th and everybody's invited to come out there. I do have a guest with me here today and her name is Sue Patrick. And sue has her own CPA office. Plus she has been in the Lions Club for how many years, Sue? [00:02:23] Speaker A: 26. [00:02:25] Speaker B: It doesn't seem that long. That's a lot of years. Sue is gone. [00:02:31] Speaker C: How long have you been a CPA? [00:02:34] Speaker A: 93. Since 93. [00:02:35] Speaker C: Oh, she goes 93. I thought she was talking 93 years. I'm thinking no. [00:02:41] Speaker B: Also on the board of the Lions Club and has been for some years as treasurer and a lot of other things. But one thing she's going to talk to us about today is one of their main fundraisers for the Lions club is the One Night Walking Horse show, which will be on the 4th of July. Now that brings us back to the fact that our fireworks display that's usually on the fourth has moved its date to the third and it will be at Dillon park because horses and fireworks don't usually go together. So the Lions Club is doing their walking horse show on the 4th. You want to tell us a little bit about it, Sue? [00:03:31] Speaker A: Yes. This will be our 90th horse show that we're having that the Woodbury Lions Club has sponsored this. Last year we were named best one night show by Scoop, Walking Horse magazine. And I think we got reserved with the Walking Horse Report. So for years we were the biggest and the best one night show. But sometimes we don't get that. Now the trainers wives have a horse show and they usually get that. [00:04:07] Speaker B: So I think, I wonder why. [00:04:09] Speaker A: Yeah. But anyway, we're all excited. It will be on July 4th. It'll be at 5pm we have shortened our number of classes. We're having 35 this year. We usually have 40. We're trying to get our classes down some because we're there so late in the night. But we, we look forward to this all year. It's our major fundraiser. This allows us to help organizations in the county as well as Lions Club in Middle Tennessee and international. The funds we raise from this. So we get excited, we start about March, making plans. We have our judge, we have. They're working on the concessions right now with food being so expensive, they're trying to figure out how to have the concessions. But if you go to the grocery store, you know the prices are up. So our prices on that will be up. But our. We sell box seats that are $90 for a box for six and they have folding chairs in them. And we also Regular admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children 5 through 10 and free for under 4. So we're really getting excited about this to plan our events and everything. [00:05:48] Speaker B: Now we have a lot of people that bring their horses in from other states for this event, right? [00:05:55] Speaker A: Yes, they come from all over for this. So we are known for having a [00:06:00] Speaker B: good show, you know, and really this is. There's some going on out at Shelbyville right at this time. [00:06:08] Speaker A: Yeah, they start on Tuesday night, I believe, and they run through our show Saturday night. So they show Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Cheverville. [00:06:18] Speaker B: Right. [00:06:19] Speaker A: And then they come over here on Saturday. [00:06:22] Speaker C: Yeah, because I remember Shelbyville, I think, if I'm not mistaken, is having their fireworks show also on July 3rd. I know there's a big celebration that's happening down at the square on that particular day. So maybe that's why they moved. It is to make way for people though that would normally go to a horse show to be able to come out here and attend because we do get a good representation from people from Bedford county that come out here as well as like you said, all around the states. They come from as far as San Diego, California. [00:06:54] Speaker B: You know, we've had them come from up in the east up East Pennsylvania. [00:07:01] Speaker A: It's all over. Our show has been known to be just a good show, and a lot of people want to come, but they're kind of wore out, I think, by the time they get to us with [00:07:12] Speaker B: the horses or the people. [00:07:14] Speaker A: The people and the horses, they say it's kind of a mini celebration or something starting that early, you know, in the week. [00:07:22] Speaker B: Well, one reason on the fireworks thing is where we do the fireworks and where we have the horse show, when those fireworks go off and a lot of them are loud, you can hear them from the horse show arena. So, you know, it's. They just don't go together. [00:07:43] Speaker C: Well, a couple of years ago, that July 4th fell on the same day, you know, as the horse show did. And they did the. They went through the fireworks, and we were all kind of scared as to what. How the horses would react, but they acted okay. But then, of course, I believe that was before Moretown got their pyrotechnics license to where they could shoot the bigger ones. So. [00:08:06] Speaker B: Because now we have a major fireworks show. It's good. [00:08:11] Speaker A: It's really good. [00:08:12] Speaker B: It is, yeah. And loud. When you talk about the Lions Club, the horse show is just one of the events that they put on during the year. They have fish fries, but they're also responsible for a lot of the contributions we give to the rescue squad. They help with the blessing boxes that are out with food for people in need. We do a food drive in November and December of every year to supply our food bank. You know, they have the bloodmobile that comes here every other month. Isn't it, Sue? [00:08:53] Speaker A: Mm. [00:08:53] Speaker B: Yeah. And we owe. The psych program is probably one of the main ones because they do testing at schools for children with eye problems. And surprisingly enough, the Alliance Club has detected children that had major eye problems and help with them getting that correction for that that they really didn't even realize they had. I'm sure the child did. It wasn't seeing that well. But if you're not looking through those. Their eyes, you don't really know until they test them. So they do a lot of good. They help with the walking track. They help with the farmers education for children that comes over here. And so they just do a lot of good things throughout the year. And this is one of their main fundraisers, and that's where most of the money goes, is to help to keep this club active. And it is active. Is there anything else? [00:10:05] Speaker A: We're always looking for good new members who would like to help serve the [00:10:10] Speaker B: community and young, able bodied. [00:10:13] Speaker A: And if you could contact a Lions Club member, then you could come and visit and see what we do. So we're always wanting new members and we appreciate the community and how they support our horse show by buying ads or sponsorships in our program book or whatever. People in the community help us come [00:10:40] Speaker B: and work in it, you know, that aren't Lions Club members. [00:10:45] Speaker A: Right. It takes a lot of people to put on that show, and we have to have people that'll park and then people in center ring and then a lot of people in the concession stand, in the dessert booth and the entry booth. So we have a lot going on and we try to get every Lions Club member to come and work that event because we really need them. [00:11:09] Speaker B: And the dessert tent will have homemade fried pies. That's what everybody. There's people that have come up there and told us we've never had a fried piece. And I thought, well, you're getting ready to. And then we have some that say, well, I hope they're like my mother used to make. And sometimes they are, but, you know, way back when they used dried fruit and everything. I'm not so sure now, but they're fried pies and they are good. Plus, the ladies in the Lions Club are good bakers and everything. So they make pies and cakes and brownies and just about anything you want. [00:11:58] Speaker A: We will be having country ham sandwiches again and hamburgers and cheeseburgers and nachos with cheese. And we'll just a variety of things in the. [00:12:10] Speaker C: If you aren't into horses, just come out anyway and eat. Eat. Yes, because they will feed you good, I promise. It always smells great around that concession [00:12:22] Speaker A: area, you know, and we can use some help there. If anybody like to volunteer, [00:12:28] Speaker B: if you can serve. They do. They're pretty well organized in there, though. [00:12:33] Speaker A: Organized? [00:12:33] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:12:34] Speaker A: Greg Rogers and Tria Wessel. Dr. Wessel, they organize that food booth. And then we have Barbara Parker, who does the sponsorship sales. She's done an excellent job this year. And we print the program and we give those out at the horse show and that helps us so much. And Carolyn does the desserts. Carla Gannon and I are in the entry, and Carla Gannon does the box seats. [00:13:04] Speaker B: And so everybody has their job. [00:13:07] Speaker A: Then we have people that take up money at the gates and we just. Everybody does well and kind of knows their duties, so we do. [00:13:18] Speaker C: What's interesting is if you've never seen sue and Carlie do their jobs, that is the most hair pulling experience that they probably could have. But I've walked up and these guys are. They're organized, and I mean, they know their stuff. They know that they get the sheets out. They've got to get the judging sheets out to them and stuff. And I mean, it's incredible about how organized this is in that particular area of what you guys do. [00:13:50] Speaker A: Yeah, we have that computerized now. I mean, it's not. We pay someone to come in and help us and do that. We used to do it all manually, and it's much easier that way to do that. The people that do that and they can pre enter. See a lot of trainers pre enter and they can enter online. And I don't know how. We handled it by hand, all of it, for years, but we did till a few years ago. So it, like I say, it's a great event. [00:14:22] Speaker B: We need viewers, too. [00:14:24] Speaker A: Yeah. [00:14:24] Speaker B: Even if you don't want to work and you're not a member of the Lions Club, we want you to come and watch it anyway because it's fun to watch those horses. They're one of a kind. Well, there's several of them. But, I mean, a walking horse is a walking horse, so people enjoy that. [00:14:45] Speaker C: And we have a lot of good viewers on Facebook when we do the live broadcast of it. But I'm gonna tell you this much right now. It's much more better to be there in person because I can only get so many angles around that horse show. I try to keep from horses kicking up dirt and all that good stuff and mud when it rains. [00:15:05] Speaker B: Not our horse show, surely. [00:15:07] Speaker C: No, no. But. Yeah, but I try to sit up. They warned me last year, you know, hey, don't sit too close to this. I got this. I got this. And I sat right where I sat because it was the best view that I could get, you know, and sure enough, I realized, you know, what was coming with it. But we had to clean. We had to clean some equipment after the thing was over. And I'm not complaining because like I said, I wanted to get the best few as I possibly could. [00:15:35] Speaker B: Well, hopefully it won't rain for that because, yeah, we. [00:15:40] Speaker A: County Executive Greg Mitchell is good to help us get this show ring in good shape, and we want to give him some recognition and the sheriff's department helps us some, so we want to give every. I know we're missing some people, but I noticed that the bleachers have all been. The wood on them, the seats have all been replaced, and the ones on the far end have been taken down. So they're not bleachers on that side anymore, so. But we will have. And that was. [00:16:20] Speaker B: You know, there weren't that many people really sue. That sat in those that bring their [00:16:25] Speaker A: chair and sit back or they either get a box or. Or something. So they. [00:16:32] Speaker B: The box seats are great. They're right up there. [00:16:35] Speaker A: Yeah, they're. [00:16:35] Speaker B: You'll be sitting real close. [00:16:38] Speaker C: Yeah, they're as close as I was sitting. Yeah. If not. If not better. Yep. [00:16:43] Speaker B: So. And then we do have the bleachers that are in front of the dessert table. And that works well, it does. Except if you're in the dessert tent and want to watch the horse show, you're kind of out of clear. [00:17:01] Speaker A: Yeah. Can't see. [00:17:02] Speaker B: And then of course DTC is there and they film the whole thing too. [00:17:07] Speaker A: Yeah, and that's wonderful too. [00:17:09] Speaker B: Yes, it is. [00:17:10] Speaker A: The support we get from them. [00:17:13] Speaker C: What time do you open your gates and what time does this thing start? [00:17:17] Speaker A: It starts at 5 o'. [00:17:19] Speaker B: Clock. [00:17:19] Speaker A: We'll be there about three setting up and getting ready and the trailers start coming in and they start entering them. Sometimes before three, but one one this year the parking may be limited somewhat, so you better come early to find you a parking place because of the new emergency center that's been built. But that's a great thing that our county's getting. So. [00:17:50] Speaker B: Oh, when it's in the parking area, part of it is where the. And. And there may be a lot done. Of course, we've only got a month before this takes place. So. Yeah, your parking is going to be limited as to where you can park for this because there are a lot of horse trailers and trucks and everything and so the parking people though, they'll manage. They'll work with you on that to get as many of you in there as you can, as they can. [00:18:23] Speaker A: And hopefully we might can have some vehicles that if you had to park at the senior center or the grammar school that could kind of shuttle you down there. Yeah, yeah. Hopefully we'll have some. [00:18:36] Speaker B: Maybe we'll have some golf carts. [00:18:38] Speaker A: Yeah, that kind of thing. [00:18:39] Speaker B: So we can help Pinewood Derby people [00:18:42] Speaker A: that can't walk so far. But people are kind of used to that. They go to the Walking Horse Celebration in Cheverville. [00:18:49] Speaker B: Oh, you walk blocks? Yeah, they know people have to walk or. [00:18:53] Speaker A: But they do have golf carts and things. They haul people in. [00:18:57] Speaker B: We had to park in somebody's yard one time and it was blocks from the stadium. [00:19:03] Speaker A: And our photographer. There'll be a photographer there making pictures of the horses. And it's just a first class Event. [00:19:14] Speaker B: Okay, sue, well, is there anything else you need to tell us? [00:19:19] Speaker A: I don't think so. [00:19:21] Speaker B: Think we've covered everything. [00:19:24] Speaker A: Probably we've left something out, but maybe not. And you can call us and ask questions if you need to. Like, Carla Gannon is the chairman of the horse show, so she would have all the answers. I'm the co chair and the secretary and I'd have most of them. But anyway, we're just looking forward to it. It's our big event and we hope to be done earlier this year by cutting a few classes. [00:19:56] Speaker B: Yeah, because at about 2 o' clock in the morning, it's hard to stay focused. [00:20:05] Speaker A: We're trying to get through by midnight anyway. [00:20:08] Speaker C: Yeah, the last few shows have been about 12 o' clock in the morning when we finish up. And of course, obviously you got to clean up and pack up after that, but. And it was hard to hold an audience after midnight. Everybody was going to bed or leaving. Yeah, a lot of them were leaving. And, you know, viewership went up a little bit on the. I noticed on the Facebook site when we did it, viewership would go up after everybody left. They'd tune into the broadcast. But again, the broadcast is nothing like being there in person or watching it on DTC even. I'll give them credit as well, but dtc, they were doing the taping of the show. [00:20:53] Speaker A: We would like to know how we could get the trainers, more of them, to come and bring more horses and, and we've considered maybe calling them the week before and asking them to come or what might be a good way to get them there. [00:21:08] Speaker C: Well, I think you might want to do it ahead of time, more than just a week, because these trainers and whatnot, they probably got their schedules already set to the horse shows that they're going to. And if there's a horse show, say, for instance, on July 4th that they participate in, then they probably won't come. But like, say if you get a year start, early start on it, you get a postcard to them or something like that. And you know, keep in front of them. That's, that's the trick. Keep the date in front of them. And I think you'll have a better opportunity. But you get quite a few, you know, and I know, yeah, last year we had several classes that had maybe one or two horses in it. I do remember that. And you probably want more competition. But there were some classes that had as many as eight or nine particular horses in it, which is a good, good participation number. [00:22:03] Speaker B: If you enter your horse In a class with three, you're going to get a place, you're going to get a [00:22:09] Speaker A: ribbon and some prize money. We give ribbons and prize money up to five places each class, and after, from six through eight, they just get a ribbon. Then we have that stick horse class where the little kids can ride their stick horse and they get a ribbon. [00:22:29] Speaker B: So they all get a ribbon, don't they? [00:22:32] Speaker A: Yeah, they all get a ribbon. And we usually give them a little money with that. [00:22:36] Speaker B: Well, all right. That's cool. [00:22:37] Speaker C: Yeah, I'm gonna have to bring me my stick horse and enter it next year. [00:22:41] Speaker B: I got sticks. [00:22:42] Speaker A: I think you're too old. [00:22:43] Speaker B: I got some little great grandchildren that might do that. [00:22:46] Speaker A: Yeah, that's kind of a fun class. Thank you so much for having us and pushing the horse show and letting everybody know. You know, I know last year we didn't get our signs out till so late that people said they didn't. Are y' all having a horse show? Well, we've had it. This is the 90th year, and it's always the first Saturday night in July, and if it falls on the 4th, it's on the 4th. So that's why we do it. Thank you. [00:23:15] Speaker C: These are the same people that are probably saying, are we still having Halloween on October 31st? [00:23:22] Speaker A: Thank you. [00:23:23] Speaker B: All right, bye, Sue. There are a lot of things that go on in the month of June, and one of them, of course, is always at the Art Center. The Art center has something going on all the time. And there Conservatory, their Junior Conservatory is going on now. And they do have a play coming up on June 12th through the 27th, and that will be 9 to 5 with Dolly Parton. She won't be there, but Dolly Parton made that famous. And their Friday and Saturday shows begin at 7:30, and then they have two Sunday matinees at 2pm and you can contact the Art center and they'll be glad to give you all the details or you can reserve your tickets if you want to come to it right now. And for the next two weeks, they have their junior Conservatory. And these are little kids that come in and they learn to sing and dance and do all kinds of things, and they love it. And then the two weeks after that will be the second Junior Conservatory, because we have so many of the younger kids that want to get involved in this. They come every day. They have teachers there, good teachers that teach them a lot of things. And then June 15th is their senior conservatory, and that's for older kids. And that will begin July 6th. All right. And then June 27th, the Chamber of Commerce is going to have their cruise in on the square if Mother Nature will let us please. And it is Always sponsored by O'Reilly Auto Parts, DTC Communication Shelter Insurance and the Canon Courier. Now that's just for our cruise ins our car show that comes up in September. It has these major sponsors plus so many more that give a sponsorship to that because that is a big event and it's an all day event. The cruise ends begin at 4 through 7 o' clock and that is on the square. And we do have door prizes and there are snacks on hand that you can eat and drink. Usually shelter insurance gives those away. So what more can you ask? Let me ask you that. And then like I say, we just went over all of the things with the one night walking horse show and that is put on by the Lions Club and it will be Saturday, July 4th. There are box seats available. So if you need a number to call in order to reserve some box seats, give the chamber a call and I'll be glad to give you that number where you can contact Carly and she will reserve your seats. They're really nice. The reserve seat area is really nice and they do supply the chairs. So that's another good thing. And then I did want to talk about this a little bit. In July, of course, like I said, Our July 4th celebration with the fireworks will be on the 3rd at Dillon Park. But you can park other places in town and be able to see the fireworks just as well. Last year was my first year. I went up to Spurlock park and I would have never thought that that would be a good viewing area for the fireworks, but it was excellent. I mean, it really was. And there was, I wasn't the only one that knew about that. Yeah, there was several, but it wasn't as crowded as around Dillon Park. [00:27:56] Speaker C: I may try that. This year I may try going to Dillon park or to Brown Spurlock because I do it at Dillon and we film it. But every time that I film it, I keep forgetting I go around the walking track and I've got a clear view of them where they shoot the fireworks off at. And the fireworks go up above my head. So you're sitting out there cranking your head, cranking the camera, trying to, you know, make it work. And it's a nice, I mean, it's a nice shot and everything, but if I could just get away from it to where I could see it full fledged, then I could get a better, you know, angle. [00:28:40] Speaker B: Well, the Only thing about Murloc park is if they have any of the low ones, fireworks, you know, that don't go up high, you have difficulty seeing them because of trees. [00:28:52] Speaker C: Right, right. [00:28:54] Speaker B: But the big fireworks, it's an excellent place. [00:28:57] Speaker C: And there weren't that many low ones [00:28:59] Speaker B: that happened because they put on a big show and it's a good show. [00:29:06] Speaker C: Most of the fireworks they shoot off are pretty high. In fact, I think if they do any low ones, it's malfunctioned. You know, something's malfunctioned. [00:29:18] Speaker B: My son and I went one year, and he parked his truck right in front of the health department. I mean, right in front of their door. And we thought we were far enough away, you know, but yet close enough. Well, there wasn't any other place to park. [00:29:36] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:29:37] Speaker B: And when they started the fireworks, I was like. We were like you. We had our head like that because, I mean, they go, you've got to look up to see them because you're just right there. So we decided to back off a little bit. [00:29:54] Speaker C: I parked over there at the health department, in fact, the last few years. But I'm always prepared mentally to keep from getting road rage because people don't know how to be courteous and stuff like that. So, yeah, I'd like to. I'm going to try to find a different place. We may come over to Brown Spurlock, [00:30:13] Speaker B: and it's a good place. My daughter. And they have little kids. And of course, the fireworks don't start until dark. [00:30:22] Speaker C: Right. [00:30:23] Speaker B: So they get there a little early and they have little kids. And so the playground's there. [00:30:28] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:30:29] Speaker B: You know, and they can go up and play. There's bathrooms there and everything. So it makes it. It's very nice over there. I shouldn't tell everybody that because it would probably be. [00:30:40] Speaker C: You'll have more people. Yeah, we done. [00:30:43] Speaker B: But there were people that brought picnic lunches and everything, you know, and sat out there and watched them. It was a good place. Okay. Then this other thing I wanted to talk about. The Chamber is very interested in our businesses. In small towns, it's difficult [00:31:04] Speaker C: a lot [00:31:05] Speaker B: of times to get the foot traffic you need to put on to open a business. And we have many businesses that are antique stores, and there's a lot of people that go to places to shop antique stores, and especially if you have more than one. And we do. We have one in Braideville. We have one in Gazaway. We have three around the square. They're close around the square. Well, actually, we have four. And we like these businesses we like the unique businesses, the boutiques, the little restaurants and everything. That's what we're looking forward to. But we felt like maybe we needed to give them a hand. And sometimes it's hard to find out what that help is. But I do know one thing. To bring in the shoppers helps a lot because of our lack of foot traffic. So July 1st through the 31st, the chamber is hosting a Shop Cannon county program. And that will be any purchase that you make with any Cannon county merchant. I don't care if they're members, if they're not members. Any Cannon county merchant. It has to be a minimum of $20 purchase and save your receipt. And it has to have the name of the business or the store on the front of the receipt. And then on the back you put your name and your phone number. Now, there will be a basket at the Art center where you can bring these receipts and put them in this basket. And there's no limit to the amount of receipts you can put in there. Just make sure that they're a Cannon county merchant and that it's over $20 purchase. Put them in there. And on the 1st of August, we're going to have a drawing. And the first name we draw out will be a $300 cash prize. The second one will be $200 cash prize, and the third one will be $100 cash price. So make sure that if you go in and make a purchase and it's over $20, get your receipt and then put your name and phone number. And there's no limit on how many you can turn in. It's any business in Cannon county. If you go into Potter's or if you go into Paul Reed's, or if you go into any of the antique stores, the gas stations, the convenience stores, the dollar stores, any of them, be sure and bring your receipts in with your name and your phone number on the back. And we'll have that drawing on the first. And this is just something that will maybe bring a little life into our merchants in Cannon County. We have some great businesses in Cannon county. And we have a lot of restaurants, several restaurants. We've got a new one coming in. Not only tsc. Well, it's open now. The new Mexican restaurant next to Verizon and I. Do you know the name of that? [00:34:42] Speaker C: I do not know the name. [00:34:43] Speaker B: It's L Something. [00:34:46] Speaker C: Yeah. L, E. L Something. Yeah, yeah. They've got street tacos. [00:34:51] Speaker B: They do. And they are packed. I've been trying to go in there the last several days. When I got off work and there wouldn't be a parking place. [00:35:00] Speaker C: So now the drawing is going to be held on Saturday, August 1st. So you're going to go in to the office on Saturday and do the drawing. What time are you going to go in? [00:35:11] Speaker B: I guess I would probably go in about 9 o'. Clock. [00:35:15] Speaker C: 9 o'. Clock. [00:35:16] Speaker B: So bring all of your receipts through the 31st. [00:35:19] Speaker C: Right. Okay. [00:35:20] Speaker B: July 1st through the 31st. [00:35:23] Speaker C: And we're. And if we can do this, I'd be willing to do this. We're going to put the drawing on Facebook to where you draw the names and I'll film it and we'll do it live on Facebook. [00:35:38] Speaker B: Well, that's fine. [00:35:39] Speaker C: Occur news and events Facebook page. [00:35:41] Speaker B: Yeah, but it's. This is just to give our businesses a little punch. You know, even if you go to the flea market, if they've got a receipt they can give you that has their name on it and it's over $20. Bring it in, you know, to drugstores, any place, any business in Cannon County. [00:36:05] Speaker C: And I'll go as far as this. If you do, if you have a receipt that you bought from like the flea market and they don't have their information on the front of it, have them put their information like where, you know, what, what business, what business it was and put the owner's name on the business on the, on the receipt. That way we can have a contact name just in case there are any questions. I think that'll help. [00:36:30] Speaker B: Well, you know, if you buy a car from Vance Auto. [00:36:33] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:36:34] Speaker B: Or you go to the co op, you know, or TSC or the dollar stores. All of them. Any of the restaurants, any business in Cannon County. [00:36:44] Speaker C: If we buy, if I buy a car from Vance Autos or there's a couple other car lots that are opening, by the way, it's not just Vance, but if I go to a Vance car, a car lot and buy a car, you know, four or $5,000. Can I get two? [00:36:59] Speaker B: No, you just get one. [00:37:00] Speaker C: I just get one chance. Okay. Thought maybe I could get a double opportunity for spending all that money. Gotcha. So I go buy a bunch of tacos at the taco place over here. Or you buy one car. It's just one. I get you, I got you. [00:37:16] Speaker B: It's the same. [00:37:17] Speaker C: Yeah. [00:37:19] Speaker B: You're just trying to cheat. [00:37:21] Speaker C: Yeah. Trying to find a loophole. I know there's a. [00:37:25] Speaker B: Is a whole month of July, so keep that in mind if you want to do some shopping. That'll be the month to do it at grocery stores. You know, you're gonna. In the grocery stores, you're gonna spend $20. Almost anything you get. If you get three items, it's gonna be $20. And also we do have another event that's happening in June and that's at the senior center. And it will be. The international dancers will be there now. They spend a week, I think, in Murfreesboro and then they will be up here on the 12th at 10 o' clock at the senior center. So they're really fun to watch and they're very. It's different. And I like to watch people dance. You like to see people clog. Well, this is international dancing and they have costumes and everything. And so you can stop by the. It's free of charge. You can stop by the senior center and. [00:38:33] Speaker C: Have you gone to one of these at a senior center? [00:38:37] Speaker B: Yeah, it's been a long time, but. [00:38:38] Speaker C: Been a long time. Okay, so you, you missed. I was thinking it was last year that I got involved with this. [00:38:44] Speaker B: Oh yeah, they got you up there to. [00:38:46] Speaker C: Yeah, to dance. [00:38:48] Speaker B: I missed that and I sure hated it. [00:38:50] Speaker C: Yeah. Well, I'm gonna try this year to come up there, but I'm gonna have a bunch of cameras with me, you know, on me to where I'm gonna. It's gonna be hard for them to pick me out in the crowd to come dance with all the cameras around me. So. But yeah, I'm gonna take some pictures. [00:39:08] Speaker B: Just wear a frilly can. Can skirt. [00:39:11] Speaker C: No, I don't want to do that. I didn't want to dance last year or whatever it was that. The definition of whatever it was that I was doing. So. But yeah, that'll be a fun time at the senior center. What time does it start? 10 o'. [00:39:25] Speaker B: Clock. 10 o'. Clock. [00:39:26] Speaker C: Okay. Do we know which. [00:39:27] Speaker B: That's Friday the 12th. [00:39:29] Speaker C: Do we know which group's coming out at 10? [00:39:32] Speaker B: No, I just know they're international dancers. [00:39:35] Speaker C: Yeah. French in Germany and Croatia are going to be participating this year in the international folk Fest. And you know, I was telling a friend of mine the. We were talking about the same thing and talking about my experience in dancing and stuff. They used to have people. It used to be a big humongous festival that would take place every year and they would have people come in from overseas. And of course, with all of the, you know, the COVID and the terrorism that was going on and stuff like that, they had to stop air travel. And so now the dancers, they are from these different places, Croatian stuff, but they live here in the United States. But it's still a good deal. Still fun to watch. Yeah, it sure is not fun to participate in in my opinion, but it is what it is. I got a couple things that I want to talk about real quick. Well you just go right quite a few because we've got about 20 minutes left. There is going to be a screening mobile mammogram that's going to take place June 26th at the Cannon County Health Department. I got a notice about that today or no last week and said that could we push it. Well we've actually been putting it in the newspaper for the past couple weeks because it was sent to us early. But a reminder came in this is going from 9am to 4 4pm and that's at 106 Alexander Drive in Woodbury. That's where the health department is. You can call to set up an appointment at 615-563-4243 and they accept most insurance plans except am better. But then you can also call the and I guess that's the health department. You can also call the health department for more information on that. And it did so well the community wide yard sales that were up in Woodbury that Auburntown's gonna have one and they are going to start theirs on June 13th at 8am at CS Hawkins Park. Setup starts at 6:30. There's a space provided for the vendors, must provide your own table and tents and all unsold items must be removed and area left clean. And for more information there's a flyer going on around it. I think we've got it in the paper. There's a QR code that you can scan or you can email Tabitha [email protected] and that's coming up on June 13th. A couple other things that are going on right now and going on each and every month until August until school starts. Is the two back to school or before school? I guess the two summer feeding programs that are going on for school age kids. And Summer Harvest is doing one every week on Mondays at the First Baptist church in Woodbury, 413 W. Main St. And your pickup time is from 9 to 11:30 in the morning and that's on Mondays. Pickup day is Monday. Each week you get seven breakfasts, seven lunches for your kids. You stop by during the time to pick up and they're free. Register online and registration helps the people at Summer Harvest. And I thought it was the First Baptist Church that was doing this, but they're doing it through Summer Harvest just like the second harvest. [00:43:06] Speaker B: And it's at a different place every day. [00:43:08] Speaker C: No. Well yes it is with, with this group. They go to do. They also do one over at the First Baptist Church in McMinnville but this is the one, the place that they do in Woodbury or in Canning county and they do it at the First Baptist Church. Now there is one, there's one that [00:43:29] Speaker B: goes a different place every day. [00:43:31] Speaker C: USDA, that's the sun meals to go 10 kids nutrition and they do it in Canning county going on every Thursday between now and August 6th. And you've gotta have a photo ID you got parents and guardians may pick up the boxes. The child doesn't have to be present but the child does not have to be school age and does not have to be enrolled in Canning county schools. I don't think the child has to be enrolled in this one either. First Baptist Church but they go to Auburntown at the Auburntown Church Church of Christ from 9:30 to 10 they're at Gazaway at Gazaway Road and Gasway Main street from 10:30 to 11. Woodbury's got a few drop off locations or pickup locations. Elkins church of Christ 11:30-12 they go road trip it over to Smith's Truck Salvage which is not too far down the road from 12:30 to 1 come back into Woodbury itself at Sunny Slope Baptist Church from 115 to 145 and and then they make a day of it by concluding at the New Hope church crush from 2 o' clock to 2:30 and again if you want. [00:44:35] Speaker B: So that's all on the same day? [00:44:36] Speaker C: Yeah, it's all on Thursdays starting at 9:30 or so. The truck will only be there for a short time so don't be late. Don't be running down to Smith's and thinking they're going to stay over because they don't. They've got to haul off to get to their next location and stuff. So those are some of the things that are going on and if you need any information about these, we've got an ad, we've got some ads running in the Canon Courier so pick you up a copy of that or you can check out my website, readyontheradio.com we've got, we've got flyers you'll have to scroll through because I've got a lot of community events in and around Canning county on that particular day on that particular thing and you can find those there. You can also find information about our car show on the car show page. I've got a car show page. [00:45:26] Speaker B: And you can call the chamber on those food drop offs because I have a list of those also. [00:45:33] Speaker C: Another thing I wanted to talk about was the football program. Kane County High School football program. They're looking for some monetary help right now. They're not quite getting it from the board of education, but they want to redo their football field or resurface their football field, replenish their football field, rehab their football field, whatever you want us to talk about. They've had broken sprinkler systems and it's caused flooding and there's a lot of ruts on the football field which can lead to liability if they're not fixed. And the school board turned down a $44,000 proposal that would have gotten a lot of it fixed. But they did give them $25,000 in order to fix it because it is, obviously it is the school's property and the responsibility falls on the school board to fix whatever needs to be fixed on the property. But the football team, you know, they, they try to be a little self sufficient football program. Coach Tommy Hinch in his second year is doing a great job with that. So, so he's reached out and. Well, he's not really reached out. Some parents of the football touchdown club, the football boosters club have reached out to the community and have been asking for donations or starting to ask for donations to help, you know, fund the rest of this to where they can get the football field back to, to a good status. Right. So any donations are welcome. You can contact coach Tommy Hinch for this. His number is 931-267-6021. The other thing that they're looking for monetary donations for is back a couple of weeks ago we had our hall of Fame sports banquet. One of our hall of Famers that we inducted was John Robinson, who had been assistant coaching here in Canning county for many, many years. Started off with the Canning County Junior High Mustangs program, if you remember that. Yeah, started off with that and then of course he worked his way up and he's now with the high school and helping out and assistant coaching and doing all kinds of different things with the high school. You can see him on Friday nights, he'll be washing uniforms. He does whatever it takes and he's a great, great man. Sets a great example for the kids. Well, during their football banquet they announced that they are going to, in fact, they've got it, they've got it on site now. They've got a garage that they put together. And they named it after John Robinson. John Robinson Garage. Well, they need help paying for, so Petrina Hill is the person to contact for that. And the donation number is 615-427-3562. If you would like to donate for the garage, so help them out, give them a little donation. And like I said, it's going for a great cause. This particular garage houses the vehicles that the county that the football program needs to use the. The trailer and stuff that they haul their uniforms in and equipment in for away games and stuff. So it's a. It's a really good cause, and I think community can step up and help. [00:49:02] Speaker B: So where are they putting this garage? [00:49:04] Speaker C: It's right next to the field house. [00:49:06] Speaker B: Okay. [00:49:06] Speaker C: They've already got it up and everything. They just got them. You know, they're making payments on it, so they'd like to get it paid off as quickly as possible. So that's. That's some of the stuff that's. That I had as far as events and whatnot. I do a show. Morning show started up back on Monday, June 1st. We actually started it back in January. And then my sidekick flipped the script on me and went for a regular paying job, a real paying job, you know, that had a lot of money involved. [00:49:39] Speaker B: I don't understand. [00:49:39] Speaker C: And I couldn't pay him a lot of money just yet, you know, so we're getting things back together and started. We. We started back on June 1, on Monday with our first show. I ended up doing it solo because he didn't understand we were starting Monday, but he's been with me the past two days. We did a show today. We do this thing called. We do a couple of features on this thing. We talk about current events and news and events from Cannon and surrounding counties. So there is some of that on there. But we do this thing called face palm joke of the day. And I thought I'd introduce this while we had some time. And we're not talking about anything else. So what it is, is the idea of it is you're on your own honor system to where when we do this. Cause we're doing it over radio, so to speak. You're on your honor. So if you hear a joke and it's bad, then you just face palm yourself. I don't know if anybody does that or not. We do, but like I said, we're on our own honor system. [00:50:38] Speaker B: I don't. [00:50:39] Speaker C: Oh, we can't get Carolyn to face palm herself after I do these. All right, we're gonna go with today's I'm gonna ask, and then Carolyn's gonna think of the answer, hopefully. Did you hear about the furious ice cream man? [00:50:57] Speaker B: The curious? [00:50:58] Speaker C: No, furious. [00:50:59] Speaker B: Oh, his ice cream melted. [00:51:04] Speaker C: Had a fr. Head. He had quite a meltdown. Yeah. Yeah. [00:51:09] Speaker B: I just feel like hitting you when you talk like that. [00:51:12] Speaker C: Here we go. Let's try this one. What do you call a paternity testing facility in Indiana? Who's your daddy? [00:51:25] Speaker B: That's even worse. [00:51:27] Speaker C: Yeah. Do you hear about the new restaurant called Karma? [00:51:33] Speaker B: No. [00:51:33] Speaker C: There's no menu. You only get what you deserve. I like that one. I like that one. So those are some of our Face palm jokes. I hope that's all of them. Oh, I've got more, but that's all I'll. Now, the one funny thing about it is Josh, who's my cohort in this, he blew this one. What do you call a reluctant potato [00:51:59] Speaker B: fried? [00:52:00] Speaker C: A hesitator. A hesitator. He mispronounced heza. And I'm thinking you just blew the joke. You know, but the funny part about it is to get reactions like you just saw Carolyn right here. Get reactions when you bounce these jokes off of people. And the producer, the cameraman's even rolling his eyes at some of these too. [00:52:22] Speaker B: Well, I could give you an answer, but it wouldn't be able to put it on the air. [00:52:27] Speaker C: Well, see, we want answers that you're family friendly. Okay? Because these are family friendly type of jokes and stuff. But anyway, here's some. We do a thing called Just the Facts, ma'. Am. One of the things that where we got this from is Just the Facts, ma' am was from Dragnet, Right? [00:52:45] Speaker B: Okay. [00:52:45] Speaker C: Detective Friday. [00:52:46] Speaker B: I do remember. [00:52:47] Speaker C: One of the facts, though, is that Detective Friday never said just the Facts, ma'. Am. He just said just the facts. And then as it was rolling on, you know how you hear things and you pass it on, somebody added the word ma' am to the end of it and stuck, you know? So here's a couple of facts. Standing like a superhero for two minutes configures your brain to cope well in stressful situations. Did you know that? [00:53:14] Speaker B: No. [00:53:15] Speaker C: You know how superheroes stand, right? I didn't. There you go. See, I didn't know this. I didn't know this. So when I'm reading this, I'm like, how does superheroes stand? And we get into a discussion about it. [00:53:29] Speaker B: And I said, that's what I know. [00:53:30] Speaker C: Okay, I can see that because they're fixing to throw. That's the type of pose that you, when you're fed up with something, that's the type of pose. Now, we did joke around about the Incredible Hulk, and we said, I don't think the Hulks did like that. [00:53:44] Speaker B: No, he didn't do that. [00:53:45] Speaker C: No. But when he was in stressful situations, he turned around into the Hulk. Yeah, right. So that's one of the things. [00:53:51] Speaker B: I've watched all them. I had grandkids and kids. I think we still have the $6 million man at the house. [00:54:00] Speaker C: Oh, do you? [00:54:01] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:54:01] Speaker C: The bionic woman. [00:54:03] Speaker B: No, I didn't ever get the man, but I got the man. [00:54:06] Speaker C: 35 years after leaving school, most people can still identify 90% of their classmates. Do you think that's a fact? [00:54:15] Speaker B: Yeah, probably. [00:54:16] Speaker C: Can you identify most of your classmates if you saw them? [00:54:20] Speaker B: No, my closest ones. [00:54:22] Speaker C: Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, too, because I'm thinking somebody graduates out of class of 200, they're not gonna be able to identify that. You know, so those were some. There was one other one I was trying to find here. Let's see what it is. This is what it was. There it is. Okay. In Japan, you can buy stick on belly button cleaners. I couldn't figure out what this was, so I Amazoned it or Googled it. And you know those cleaners that you clean baby bottles with and stuff? They make little bitty ones that you can. With the brushes with. The brushes? Yeah, that you can clean out the lint and stuff of your belly button. Not that I really want to see somebody do that, but this is. [00:55:11] Speaker B: I don't have that problem. [00:55:12] Speaker C: This is stick on belly button. What. What do you do? You stick it on your belly button, and then when it comes time to clean it, you rip it off and clean your belly button with. I still haven't found that. So that's one of those that. But there. Our viewers can now, you know, you're [00:55:30] Speaker B: always looking for the next big thing that will sell. Yeah, you might start with that. I don't know who would buy it. [00:55:39] Speaker C: Yeah. How much it costs. [00:55:41] Speaker B: Stranger things. [00:55:41] Speaker C: I wouldn't pay $0.30 for one of those little bitty things. What in the world? [00:55:45] Speaker B: I don't. I don't have a use for that. [00:55:48] Speaker C: Yeah, I don't have a use for that, too. Today, by the way, is June 3rd, and it is national repeat day. So you're supposed to repeat. [00:55:57] Speaker B: Don't repeat those jokes. [00:55:59] Speaker C: Oh, well, I already have. Sorry. All right, let's see. Our time is almost up. We got two minutes left. According to my. [00:56:08] Speaker B: I just want to thank everybody for watching. And I do want to remind you, in June we still have the Cruise Inn. And of course you can get a mammogram. And the international dancers will be at the Senior center. So there's still things going on. Don't forget the grand opening for TSC, that's on the 13th at 10 o'. Clock. Gasaway has their home coming on Saturday and they have a big day planned. Then when you get into July, you've got the shop Cannon county, which begins the 1st through the 31st. So anything you buy from many merchants, save your receipt, put your name, phone number on it and take it to the art center and there'll be a basket there for you to deposit your receipts. Listen, you could be the winner of $300. That's not going to hurt if you're buying something anyway. And then the horse show and course that will be on the 4th and that will be at the horse show arena. And then the fireworks show will be at Dalen park. That will be on the third. And early voting starts on the 17th. And let me see, the July cruise in which will be on the 25th, will be the toy Drive Cruise in. So if you bring your vehicle, or even if you don't bring a vehicle and you're just coming to look at them or anything, bring a toy. And it is distributed to kids at Christmas time in Cannon county that need a little help. And we thank you for watching and we hope to see you again next month.
