[00:00:17] Speaker A: Good morning. And I do mean it's morning. Usually I'm ahead of myself. I'm either in the afternoon and it's morning, but it is. And we're glad you're with us. You're watching the Cannon County Chamber Connection. And of course, we appreciate this, and it's made possible by DTC Communications. We've been doing this for several years now, and we do appreciate it. You know, there's so many events in July, and, of course, this is the 250th anniversary of America. And there's fireworks going off everywhere in Cannon county and around us in surrounding counties. You know, July is having so many events that August is going to be really boring because I don't have a lot of planes showing up for. For August. But I know you won't see this before the 4th, but our fireworks show in Woodbury this year is going to be on the third. So I'm sure you've already. People in Cannon county have already heard about this. I have one guest today, so it's going to be a short show. And he is Mr. Chris Brown, and he is the manager of our new TSC store, Tractor Supply. And, Chris, we're so proud to have you here. [00:01:53] Speaker B: Thank you. [00:01:54] Speaker A: We're proud to have TSC in town. That's a good business. [00:01:59] Speaker B: Yeah, I know. Everybody's been excited for it. I know, like, months ago, we had people coming up to the door, calling, because we still have our phones active. So people calling up there asking me, like, hey, are you open yet? You open yet? [00:02:12] Speaker A: They did the chamber the same way they called the chamber. [00:02:16] Speaker B: Yeah, it's good to be here. [00:02:18] Speaker A: But we had a grand opening, and it was great. They were lined up before we even got there with the ribbon and everything. You had a story full when I walked in. [00:02:28] Speaker B: Yeah. It took me like, 30, 45 minutes just to, like, get to you to do, like, the ribbon cutting, because I was getting called left and right. And we had all kinds of questions. [00:02:37] Speaker A: Oh, they were lined up all the way back to the end of the store. When I went in there, I thought, well, this is a good thing. [00:02:44] Speaker B: Yeah. Oh, no, it's good. Yeah. Because we sold mowers, you know, we had a bouncy house. We had all those food trucks. So that helped everybody, like, get into the community. And we saw so many people that I've known for so long coming in that day. [00:02:57] Speaker A: Oh, good. [00:02:58] Speaker B: They all came into town. They were driving, like, 30, 45 minutes just to come. [00:03:01] Speaker A: Like, you had a lot of the people from other TsCs did you. [00:03:05] Speaker B: Yeah. Had friends, family, like, all the other ones. They just drove just to see what the store looked like, basically just to come support. So that was nice. [00:03:13] Speaker A: You know, it was funny because I was walking around the store and I'm carrying scissors in this big red bow for the grand opening. And finally I picked up a basket and just put it in a basket, and this woman stopped me that I knew, and she said she was so proud that you were here, because now she says, you know, before, there wasn't even a place where you could go buy a pair of work jeans for your husband or anything. And I thought, well, you're right, there isn't. [00:03:45] Speaker B: Yeah. Because there's no store. I was thinking about the dollar store, and then, like, Ace and some of the hardware stores, but. [00:03:52] Speaker A: But they don't handle. [00:03:53] Speaker B: Yeah, no jeans, no more clothes and stuff like that. [00:03:55] Speaker A: Boots and things. It's been a long time since we've had a boot store, a shoe store. But I told her, and then she looked at my ribbon, and she goes, are they selling ribbons here, too? And I said. I felt like saying, how much will you give me for these? [00:04:12] Speaker B: Yeah, I'll sell it to you. [00:04:13] Speaker A: I says, no, this is for the grand opening. I says, they're just so busy. We can't have it. So. But I thought that was kind of funny. And people were buying a lot of things. You had a lot of giveaways throughout the store. [00:04:29] Speaker B: Yeah, yeah. We had a whole table up front. That was my boss's job all day. I just had him. He's like, how can I help? I was like, just give away promo items to everybody that just stay up here. I was like, I can cover the floor for you. [00:04:42] Speaker A: Because my husband wanted a cap. And he said they were all out of them. He says, we brought 250. And they're all gone? [00:04:51] Speaker B: Yeah, they're all gone. Yeah. We had two big boxes, and they went quick and still, like, three days after. I had people ask, and they're like, you got any hats left over? I was like, no, we. We got rid of those on that day. [00:05:03] Speaker A: Isn't that funny? [00:05:04] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:05:04] Speaker A: And. And you did sell some mowers and [00:05:07] Speaker B: some grills and grills, mini bikes, some fencing. Like, we had little go karts we sold. Yeah, it was. It was just busy. I think people were just excited to come. [00:05:17] Speaker A: They were just. And I'm glad they were. And I'm glad they bought stuff. [00:05:22] Speaker B: It's like me going to a flea market. Like, I just go to a flea market. And I'll spend money no matter what. I'm just. I'll find. [00:05:28] Speaker A: You'll find something you just couldn't live without. [00:05:30] Speaker B: Yeah. Every time. [00:05:31] Speaker A: Well, I'm. I'm kind of the same way. But we trade with TSC anyway because it has pet food and items like that that we use sinus medicine for our dog. [00:05:46] Speaker B: Yes. [00:05:47] Speaker A: TSC is the only one that has [00:05:49] Speaker B: that sinus flea and tick. Everybody's been crazy. Flea and tick. I just bought a collar for my dog because of. I found like two ticks on her in the backyard. So I got her collar I'm getting this year. They're bad. They are. I just. I pulled another one off this morning. So it's like three in a week that I found on her. [00:06:05] Speaker A: So just check yourself. My husband found a couple on him. [00:06:09] Speaker B: Yeah. [00:06:09] Speaker A: I thought, oh, great. Now we're gonna have tick fever running around. [00:06:14] Speaker B: Yeah. Some kind of disease from it. [00:06:17] Speaker A: I don't need that. But if you do, TSC probably has something you can put on it. [00:06:22] Speaker B: We do. [00:06:24] Speaker A: Okay, let me see. Okay. There was another thing I was going to ask you because I was asked this. I know. The one in Murfreesboro, I believe has a dog washing station. Do y' all have that? [00:06:38] Speaker B: We do, yes. So we. I actually had to clean it last night because we had a bunch of dogs come in yesterday for a wash. So I went in there and it looked like a bomb went off. I had dog hair everywhere, water, but it doesn't take long to clean up. But yeah, it's only $10 per pet [00:06:54] Speaker A: on the pet wash. Well, I noticed the day we were having the grand opening, I think everybody brought their dog, if I'm not mistaken. But there was a couple of really big dogs in there and I thought maybe they were there to bait them because that's the kind of dog usually if you have a poodle or something, wash, stick them in the bathtub or something. But those big dogs are a whole different story. [00:07:22] Speaker B: Yeah, I believe it was two, like German Shepherds or two large breed dogs that came in last night. Yeah, okay. Yeah, they were in the tub and they're like, you know, dog hair going everywhere. But I wouldn't clean that up afterwards. But yeah, we do have a dog wash and it does stay pretty, pretty steady throughout. Yeah, most people come in at night. It seems like, like after 8 o'. Clock. I mean, it's dark out and people are your state. [00:07:45] Speaker A: Now, wait a minute. What time do you close? [00:07:47] Speaker B: Close at 9. So Monday through Saturday, we're at 9pm but usually after 8. Like last night, we had two people come in with their dogs and they just came in to give their dog a bath, and that was pretty much it. So I guess they, like, come at night when they come in. [00:08:00] Speaker A: But you don't do that after you're closed. [00:08:03] Speaker B: No. Yeah. Yeah. So once nine o'. Clock. Yeah, we just shut everything down and close the store. So it's pretty much open. Until the hours were open is when we keep it open. [00:08:13] Speaker A: So, you know, I wondered when you were building that building, if there was going to be enough room there. When you consider parking and all of the things that you have outside, there is enough room there, but you're really close to the housing. 55 and older there. [00:08:32] Speaker B: Yes. That is wild that they put it. So I think our landscaping company that I had for the store. So they ended up cutting the grass that was in front of those housings. And so I did have two. I can't remember her name, but one of the HOA ladies that's in charge of it that lived there, she came over and she was like, hey, I just don't know how we got that grass cut. But she's like, I appreciate it if the landscape people did it. And I think the landscape people, they thought it was just, you know, part of us. So they ended up cutting the grass for them, like along their fence. And she's like, I want to thank you. [00:09:06] Speaker A: I was like, they love that. [00:09:08] Speaker B: They love that. Yeah. [00:09:11] Speaker A: Anything you can do to make the neighbors happy, keep it clean and ask [00:09:16] Speaker B: them if they need anything. [00:09:17] Speaker A: Well, it looks very nice. And people are more noticing of it now than they were because it does sit kind of back. [00:09:27] Speaker B: Yeah, you gotta look for it. Yeah, for sure. [00:09:31] Speaker A: But we are so proud that you were able to come and be a part of our business community. And we hope that you're here for a lot of years to come. And we encourage people to go in there and shop. And the other thing we'll encourage you to do, they'll give you a receipt on anything you buy. And if they don't ask for one. And this thing in the month of June, we're having the summer bonus month. And the Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring this. And it's an incentive for you to shop at home. And what you do is you collect your receipts from any purchases over $20 that you make at any business in Cannon County. They don't have to be a Chamber member. We wish they were, but if they're not, it's any business in Cannon County. For the whole month of July. We want you to have the name of the business on that receipt. They usually. It has a register, has that or something on the back of that receipt. Put your name and your telephone number. Bring those receipts to the Chamber or the Art Center. I have a big basket there for you to put them in. And then on the Last day, the 31st in the afternoon, we'll draw out three names. The first one that we draw out will get $300 back to them. The second one will get $200 and the third one will get $100. And that's just for shopping in Cannon County. So. So you gotta take advantage of this. This is something that you may get money back on. But if you have any questions about that, then call me at the chamber. And that's 615-563-2222. And of course, TSC will be part of that. They'll be glad to give you a receipt. And that includes people. If you buy gas, if you buy. I had one person ask me, if I buy a car, do I get to put in more than one? No, it's one receipt per car. Okay. But if you buy a car, bring that receipt down there and put it in there. We hope you do buy a car. Vance would love it. Anyway, this is a. An incentive that the Chamber is doing to try to get people to shop at home. Our businesses are important to us and they're also important to your bottom line. So because they help with the taxes, keep the taxes down, they help with the schools, everything centers around that. So, you know, I know that we're not going to be inclusive. I know that people are going to go out of town to shop. I do too, for some things. But the more you do it here and the more you bring your receipts in, the better your chances are. And that's the entire month of July. Now then, the Art center is having something going on too. Of course, they always have something going on. Their senior conservatory starts the 15th. And that will be July 10th through July 19th will be their next play. And that will be 12 Angry Jurors, which will be showing on Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 and a 2 o' clock matinee on Sunday. And then July 25th is the Chamber of Commerce Cruise in on the Square. It begins at 4 until 7pm and this will be our toy drive Cruise in. So we're asking anyone whether you bring a car or not, if you'll bring an unwrapped toy. These toys will go to children that are in a needy situation in Cannon county at Christmas time. And we do ask that you don't bring any kind of weapons. No knives, swords, guns, nothing like that. The cameraman was going to bring a sword. I could see him over there doing that. Anyway, if you'll come to that Cruise Inn, we did have one this last Saturday. It was very iffy because it rained out at our house about one o' clock and then it quit. And I hadn't been able to have one all year because of the weather. So I told my husband, I says, well, let's go down there, see if anybody's there. We'll sit there for a while. If it rains, then we'll know nobody's coming. Well, we got down here a little after three and there was already some people parked out there. So I thought, we're setting up. If it rains on us, it rains on us. Well, Keith showed up because he's our dj. He got set up and then Chip Dunn with shelter insurance showed up. He gave away drinks and snacks. So we had a good cruise in. And we ended up with about 25 cars, which was actually 20 more than I had expected because it was raining everywhere around us. And I thought, we'll be lucky if we have five cars, but if we do, we're going to be there for them. So we were. Now our next one will be the 25th of July, and like I say, it is our Toy Drive Cruise Inn. And we appreciate anything you can bring to us. And I know those little kids do at Christmas time. So we have a lot of meetings and everything going on in July, but we don't really have after the fourth and the third. Of course, the fourth is the Lions Club Horse show, but by the time you see this, it'll probably be over with too. But I think everybody goes. I think everybody sets up and works in that. Our cameraman works in it, I work in it. They haven't gotten hold of Chris yet, so he's safe right now, but who knows? And you know, we get into August then, and other than on the 15th of August, the Lions Club will have their fish fry. And that will be from 11 to 6 at the Lions Club building. And there's always a lot of people that come to that. And of course the money from that and from the horse shows and everything goes toward their charities that they entertain during the year. So this is a good thing. And in August, our Cruise Inn will be on the 15th, which will be a week earlier than it really should be. And the reason for that is there's another car show going on the week that we usually have our cruise in. And I didn't want to have two events. One of them's gonna do without some cars and it'll probably be the cruise in. So I just moved mine up a week. It will be on the 15th. And I have a doctor's appointment that month. But other than that I don't have a thing down here. And then of course you get in. School will be starting soon. I'm not sure exactly of the date. And then you get into September and you have a lot of events that are coming up in September. School will have started and of course you have a lot of sports that will be going on. And there's been a lot of sports going on even during the summer at our school. [00:18:10] Speaker B: So. [00:18:11] Speaker A: So we're proud for that. I did have a person call me and I want to mention this. Cannon county is a very giving community and a lot of their businesses and everything go all out for helping people in the community. And one of our things that we have people in the community that have a difficult time feeding their family, feeding themselves due to a lot of different reasons. And I'm not even going to go into them. But we do have a food bank. And our food bank is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 to 12. And you can go there and if you sign up, go by their criteria and if you need some food, they'll get you some. Of course, as with anything else they need, the food bank needs donations. And they'll take donations of food. Plastic bags. You know yourself, you go to the store and you end up with a bag full of plastic bags that you don't know what to do with. Well, if you'll take them to the food bank, they will use them to put people's groceries in when they come there. And another thing that they need is they need help. These things don't run themselves. It's not that many hours that you would be putting in to help with this. So if you would like to be of help or if you could give a monetary donation, if you don't want to fool with taking food down there, then if you could give some money that will help them purchase the needs that they the things that they need. And they do a really good job. But like I say, they do need some volunteers. And your co chairman persons for this is Linda Day, Deb Wessel and Dennis Clark. And most people in Cannon county know these people. But if you need a place where you can donate online, call the Chamber, I'll be glad to give you that information or I'll give you someone to get in touch with if you would like to donate some time. You know, if you could just give two hours a month or four hours a month, you know, they can divide that up since they're only there two hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, so that I told them I would mention that. And of course, like I say, most of our services, our emergency services, and everything are done with volunteer labor. And I think that's so great that our community does that. And our food bank is very important. I would hate for it not to be in service because it does serve a lot of people. And let me see. Chris, do you have any sales or anything that's going on this month? [00:21:40] Speaker B: I mean, we have flash sales going on, and. And then also, I think on August 15, we have a harvest day. So basically, it's a small farmer's market, like you were talking about. [00:21:53] Speaker A: Okay. [00:21:53] Speaker B: So we can have anybody either just call the store, come in, we can give you the paperwork. There's basically a little QR code. You scan, and you could submit, like, what you're bringing the name of your [00:22:05] Speaker A: vendor so you can set up. [00:22:08] Speaker B: So you get that day. You get, like, three to four weeks to set up or submit your approval on there. And then once we go through there and approve all these vendors, we can have anybody set up. And most of them be, like, in the parking lot, typically, like the grand open day. But if we have room on the inside, we can set up little tables and stuff. But, yeah, I've had people bring all kinds of stuff, from, like, handmade soap to, like, woodworking that they do. Somebody was a welder, he would weld, like, little things, figurines, and, like, sell them there. So people, they bring all kinds of stuff. So that is August 15th, and I think we just got the website, so you can go to the tractorsupply.com harvest day, and it should bring you up a page to, like, submit for. But, like, yeah, if you can't figure it out, you can just come in store and I can, like. [00:22:57] Speaker A: You'll explain it to them, won't you? [00:22:59] Speaker B: Yep. Yeah, I can get the pampered for you. [00:23:01] Speaker A: Y' all have a lot of home decorations, yard decor, I should say. And you have some of the best greeting cards I've ever read. [00:23:10] Speaker B: Yeah, everybody says that. [00:23:12] Speaker A: Really? They are. I buy several of them during the year because there's some people in my family have birth rates that are so deserving of some of them. [00:23:23] Speaker B: Yes, I've seen some funny ones. [00:23:27] Speaker A: But anyway, there's just a lot of things in the TSC store, and if you haven't been there, then you certainly need to go and check it out, because I know they have tools. They have gardening stuff. They have medicine for your animals. You have horse feed. [00:23:47] Speaker B: Just a little bit of everything. Yeah, horse feed, cow feed. We got tools, welding supplies. We've got balin twine. We have the pet wash. Know we have a cooler for shots, like vaccination shots for your pets, too. Oh, okay. Like trimmers, clippers. Yeah, we have a little bit of everything. And so that's. Especially during Christmas time. That's when we'll start getting our decor. All that Christmas decor. [00:24:11] Speaker A: Christmas decor comes in. [00:24:12] Speaker B: All that stuff will come in. We'll get tables, chairs. [00:24:15] Speaker A: Oh, Christmas is my downfall, Chris. It is. If I. If you want to sell me something, just put a tree on it and. [00:24:26] Speaker B: Oh, yeah, we'll have tree. They should give us live Christmas trees. Usually we get like a couple hundred, like, live trees, and those are usually a big hit. [00:24:33] Speaker A: You know, I used to always put up a live tree, and I love the way they smell, but I put up one so early that it doesn't survive. [00:24:43] Speaker B: Yeah. And it makes a mess, too. [00:24:45] Speaker A: It does. [00:24:45] Speaker B: All those pine needles on the ground and. [00:24:47] Speaker A: And I add carpet. [00:24:49] Speaker B: Yeah. So he had to vacuum it up. [00:24:51] Speaker A: It was awful. They got stuck in the carpet. Yeah, that was the last. [00:24:55] Speaker B: They do smell good, though. But that's the. That's the best part of it. [00:24:58] Speaker A: Yeah, they do. But you probably. Do you have artificial ones, too? [00:25:03] Speaker B: We do, yeah. We sell artificial, too. We have like a little mini one six foot eight foot ten. And, like, regular lime trees, too, so. [00:25:12] Speaker A: Well, you can see the tree for the Lions Club. I put up the Christmas Village here every year, and I always decorate the tree for Christmas. So I told them, since they. When they move it, if they take it out and it goes in storage, it never looks the same. [00:25:34] Speaker B: Oh, it never does. [00:25:35] Speaker A: So I told them, I says, don't take that tree down. We'll cover it up with garbage bags or something. And so we just decided to decorate it for every season. [00:25:47] Speaker B: Yeah, it makes sense. All like the little Fourth of July stuff. Yeah. [00:25:50] Speaker A: So that's what I do now. I just decorate it for the season until Christmas gets here. And then I put Christmas. [00:25:56] Speaker B: That's smart, too. It always looks good, too. Never changes. [00:26:00] Speaker A: It does. We want. We're going. I told you it's going to be a short show because, like I say, I don't have a lot of items for August because so much is happening in July. But I do want to caution everybody, the heat is something you need to pay attention to. So if you're going to be outside for prolonged periods of time, please take water and stay hydrated, because it happens to you in a hurry. And it happened to me last year and, and I'm one that loves the heat. I'm usually very used to it, but it got the best of me before I even knew what happened. And so I had to take a break in the middle of it and it was kind of scary, to tell you the truth. So pay attention to them when they say, you know, unless you're sitting in a swimming pool or something, you probably need to pay attention because this heat is breathtaking. It really is. But any outdoor events, usually our fireworks show happens at 9 o' clock at night, so hopefully it'll be a little cooler by then. I'm not sure, but I think it will be. But anyway, we appreciate you listening to us every month with what we have to say and what's going on that we know of and what new businesses are coming into our community because we welcome them. And we hope that everybody shops at home this month because it could give you some money back if you do that. And we hope to see you again next month.
